Explain which topology you would choose given the following considerations when choosing a topology

  • Money
Under this circumstance, I will pick the Linear Bus Topology. This is because it is easier to connect to a computer/peripheral to a linear bus and requires less cable length. When there is a lesser cable length, it means that it will be cheaper as well. Compared to the Star Topology, which requires more cable length than a linear one. Plus, it uses concentrators which are costly and the linear topology does not need a concentrator but only terminals on each end.

  • Length of cable needed
If I do not need it for a large building, I will pick the linear bus. This is because it does not need that long of a cable lenght compared to the star topology. Which needs more cable length than my linear bus. It requires a longer length because a star topology is usually used in the homes or offices.A tree topology is a very complicated topology and it depends on the type of cabling that is used.

  • Future growth
I will pick the tree topology because it combines the characteristcs of linear bus and star topologies. It consists of a star-configured workstations connected to a linear bus backbone cable. Tree topologies allow for the expansion of an existing network, and enable schools to configure a network ro meet their needs. Besides that, it is being supported by several hardware and software venders. Besides, a point to point connection is possible with tree topology and once used, all computers will have access to the larger and immediate networks which will make it so much convenient. Plus, the tree topology is the best topology for branched out networks.

  • Cable type
I will use fiber optic cable/ twisted pair cable when I am using the star topology. And I will use the twisted pair/coaxial/fiber optic when I am using the tree topology and or the linear bus.
